Julie Gearan (b. 1967, Fitchburg, MA, USA) is a painter based in Providence, Rhode Island. Raised in New York, she studied and worked in New York, Philadelphia, Italy, and Chicago before establishing her studio practice in Providence. Working primarily in oil, Gearan creates metaphorical narratives that merge cultural and personal mythologies, most recently explored in her series Out to See. Her current project, Fair Trade, investigates and reimagines the role of the history painter in contemporary culture. Gearan’s work has been exhibited nationally and is held in both private and public collections.
An educator at RISD, Gearan is available for lectures, workshops, and educational collaborations.
